Name of project

Pen Project

Who worked on the project

Myself

Goal of project

Create a pen on a lathe from a design in prodesktop

What products did your group create - include photos and links to cad/cnc files

My Final product was all of the pen parts and designs and the pen itself. Pen Parts

What was your role in the project

My role in the project was to create my own design for a pen that I was going to lathe myself. Using the cad software was common, but the lathe was all new to me. I never used a lathe before this project. I was showed by video and other students in the class how to make a perfect cut with a lathe. It was a lot more work for a small pen than what I thought it would be. Especially with all of the sanding.

What role did CAD play in the project

Cad came into play with the first steps of design. I had to make all of the seperate parts for the pen. There were about 9ish parts for the pen. But I did a pencil because all of the pen kits were out, but the parts were still the same except for the main piece in the middle. Using these dimensions, I was able to create all of the parts in CAD. Once I created all of the parts, I had a make a negative of the blocks, this was for the lathe. I would hold up the negative design to the block on the lathe, so i know how to shape it out.

How did you use the design process on the project?

Using the design process was very critical. This was because we were using mesasurements that had to precise. These included the width of the block, length of the block, diameter of the hole, etc. If these measurements were not correct, then the pen could have not of assembled properly.
